Finally, after a chilly wet April, the proverbial May flowers have arrived. Lilacs, peonies, azaleas, wisteria, viburnums, and dogwoods are all in bloom now, as are Spanish bluebells, aliums, and many spring wildflowers including wild geraniums and heart-leaved groundsel.
Don't forget to appreciate foliage, too. Trees and other deciduous plants are leafing out everywhere. "It's not just the flowers. There are so many different textures and shades of green to notice right now, too, especially in the Japanese Garden," says Melanie Sifton, vice president of Horticulture and Facilities. Beautiful ferns are also emerging in the Native Flora Garden and elsewhere. Be sure to come see!
