How to Care for Indoor Palms

House Plants & Flowers

Palms are popular indoor houseplants and they can bring a touch of the tropics to any interior decor, adding a lush, green feel to any room. Bamboo Palms (Chamaedorea), Neanthe Bella and Areca Palms are some of the common indoor potted palm plants.

One of the easiest palms to keep indoors is the Lady Palm plant. Lady Palm is the common name for the Rhapis excelsa palm. Here is a picture of Rhapis excelsa or Lady Palm. Rhapis palm plant is tolerant of low light but does its best in bright light with some morning sun. It is less prone to insect problems than many of the other palms.

The Parlor Palm is the common name for Chamaedorea elegans or Neanthe bella palm. It is a common indoor palm plant and is often found in gift plant baskets or container dish gardens, grouped with other small potted plants. I have seen Parlour palm plants as small as 6-7 inches tall and as large as 5-6 feet tall. Generally, the Parlor Palm is an easy care house plant.
